The 2019 Art Biennale (May 11 – November 24) promises to give us an interesting time. The event will highlight a general approach to making art and a view of art’s social function which embraces both pleasure and critical thinking. Curator Ralph Rugoff has therefore entitled the event ‘May You Live In Interesting Times’.
As usual, the main venues are Giardini and Arsenale, but the national and collateral events across the historic center of Venice are certainly worth a few days extra. You can find all the practical details on the website of La Biennale di Venezia.
In the coming weeks and months, I will publish several posts on the Art Biennale, in line with what I did for the 2017 Art Biennale. To prepare you for your visit, I also publish previews of the national participations and collateral events. After my visit to the Biennale, these previews will be updated with my personal review and pictures. You can find all these articles listed below.
– Australia: ASSEMBLY
– Belgium: Mondo Cane
– Czech Republic: Former Uncertain Indicated
– Great Britain: Cathy Wilkes
– Turkey: We, Elsewhere by Inci Eviner
– Grenada: Epic Memory
– Lithuania: Sun & Sea (Marina)
– New Zealand: Post Hoc
Other art events in Venice
– Palazzo Grassi: Luc Tuymans – La Pelle
This page will constantly be updated with the latest links to my posts on the Art Biennale as well as to the (p)reviews. You might want to bookmark this page for your future reference or register for the bi-weekly newsletter to stay up-to-date and be well-prepared for your visit.
If you would like to take the opportunity to discover Venice while you are there for the Biennale, I would be more than happy to make your life easier and your trip more fascinating with a personalized Venice Insider Program.
Enjoy the Biennale!
